Meet the talent behind the camera, the pen, and the inspiration.

Jini DellgaccioJini Dellaccio possessed an unparalleled gift. Her photographs are indeed memento mori, reminding viewers of the transitory nature of life, the virtue of detachment, and the immortality of the soul. Her elegant artwork and personal warmth provide the ultimate testament to time’s relentless melt.

Donate to Jini’s Fund and provide funding to women artists who have devoted a lifetime making the world a better place through their art and now need support to live in integrity during their senior years. A Wild Legacy

Douglas Tompkins was a world-renowned adventurer, entrepreneur, and conservationist. Co-founder of The North Face and Esprit, Doug spent the first half of his life building successful, global brands, while simultaneously adventuring around the world, completing first descents of the world’s toughest rivers. In 1968 Doug embarked on a trip to Chile, driving with friends from California to the tip of Patagonia.

“If anything can save the world, I’d put my money on beauty” – Douglas Tompkins

A Wild Legacy tells the story of Doug’s incredible life, his lasting impact on the wild landscapes of Patagonia, and Kris and the Tompkins Conservation team’s efforts to continue his audacious mission.

Documented in the film Mountain of Storms, the trip solidified Doug’s place as rock climbing legend. In the early 1990s, Doug sold his part of Esprit and moved down to Chile to do conservation work full time with his wife, Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, the former CEO of Patagonia, Inc. Together, over the last 25 years, Doug and Kris have protected 2.2 million acres, more land than any other individuals. Doug was tragically killed in a kayaking accident on Lago General Carrera, north of Patagonia Park, on December 8th, 2015.

For those who wish to support Doug and Kris’s work to protect wild places and creatures in Patagonia and beyond, we welcome your contribution to the Douglas R. Tompkins Wild Legacy Fund of the Marin Community Foundation.

Blue Ventures

Ten years ago, in a coastal village in Madagascar, Alasdair Harris tested an elegantly simple model that put Blue Ventures on the map. He encouraged residents to take charge of their local fishery by cordoning off a small section of their octopus-fishing area for a designated period of time. When the area was re-opened, the community saw huge increases in their catch and incomes.

In this video, you’ll see one woman’s reaction and how this drastically changed her family’s life. Building on this success, local communities created Madagascar’s first local committee to manage and conserve marine resources. Since that auspicious start, Blue Ventures has helped replicate this model along thousands of miles of coastline along the Indian Ocean. Beyond managing fisheries, Blue Ventures has integrated family planning and health services into its livelihoods and conservation work, showing the world that protecting the ocean can and should go hand-in-hand with improving lives.

Resilient Communities.

Ecosystem of Opportunity: A Short Thunder Valley CDC Documentary

Thunder Valley CDC was inspired and incubated by a group of youth and young families that were reconnecting to cultural spirituality and identity through spiritual ceremonies.

Our values are deeply rooted in Lakota values and the continued engagement of our community in this project.

This reconnection to spirituality was supported by the Thunder Valley spiritual circle. It was our involvement in those ceremonies that inspired us to do more for our communities and for our people. We are a grassroots community development corporation that is guided by the needs and ideas of our community.
